Coverage, data speeds and network performance are set by the carrier. Check the service where you intend to use it.
On an iPhone, go to Settings → General → About and look for Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” indicates that it is unlocked. Only the current carrier can arrange a carrier unlock. See Apple’s carrier unlock instructions.
For Samsung or other Android phones, contact the existing carrier to confirm unlock status and use the new carrier’s compatibility check. Samsung explains carrier changes.

Tell us if you want to keep your number. Ask the existing and new carriers for the account information, transfer PIN and eligibility rules; completion time varies.
eSIM, international calling and roaming are plan- and device-dependent. Confirm support, destinations and charges before activation.
Ask about current hotspot devices, compatible carriers and available data plans. Check the data limit and coverage before choosing a hotspot.
